In honor of BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, also known as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we have compiled resources and organizations that support the maternal health and mental health of BIPOC women, mothers, and birthing people. You will find information that is geared towards individuals from these communities as well as healthcare workers who serve these communities.

Hispanic and Latino/a/x

American Psychiatric Association – Working with Latino/a and Hispanic Patients

This resource shares best practices for working with Latinx and Hispanic patients and includes statistics, significant history and context, culture-bound syndromes, support of collaborative care, and future needs. 

American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry 

The ASHP works to foster multidisciplinary collaborations in mental health treatment with a specific focus on LatinX populations, and advocates for policies to eliminate health disparities in minority populations and support LatinX patients, families, and communities through wellness and inclusion initiatives. The Birth Center Equity Fund focuses on making birth center care an option for every person who wants it, by growing and sustaining birth centers led by Black, Indigenous, and other people of color. 100% of funds raised go to BIPOC birth centers.

Common Sense Childbirth

Serving pregnant and postpartum individuals as well as healthcare professionals, this organization offers training and certification programs for healthcare professionals, para-professionals, maternity care systems, and medical institutions interested in creating perinatal safety for at-risk populations. They provide affordable health care for pregnant and postpartum women who are uninsured, underinsured, low-income or indigent. They also help with applying for Medicaid, social support, and health navigation services for pregnant women.
